Commercial Lead – Technical Services

The Role

You’ll focus on driving profitable growth, shaping commercially robust service offerings, and ensuring that client engagements are structured, priced and managed to deliver long term value.

Operating within a highly regulated RPAS environment, you will act as the primary commercial authority for Technical Services, working closely with technical specialists and regulatory experts to translate complex requirements into clear, compelling and commercially viable solutions. While technical understanding is important, accountability for commercial performance, risk and outcomes sits firmly with this role.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Lead the commercial development of EEI’s Technical Services portfolio, including consultancy, regulatory support and assurance services.
  • Own and manage client relationships from initial engagement through to contract award and delivery, acting as the primary commercial interface.
  • Shape, price and negotiate commercial proposals, ensuring clarity of scope, appropriate risk allocation and sustainable margins.
  • Work closely with technical SMEs to ensure bids, proposals and commercial documentation are compliant, accurate and commercially sound.
  • Provide commercial leadership on regulations, such as SORA, ensuring services are commercially constructed to be positioned and delivered in a controlled manner.
  • Build and manage a qualified commercial pipeline, identifying new opportunities, market trends and routes to growth within the RPAS sector.
  • Identify, assess and manage commercial risk, escalating issues and recommending mitigation strategies where required.
  • Represent EEI commercially at client meetings, industry events, regulatory forums and exhibitions.
  • Ensure all commercial activities align with EEI’s governance, Safety Management System (SMS) and compliance framework.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Experience in a commercial, business development or client facing role within RPAS, aviation or a similarly regulated technical services environment.
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen, with experience in pricing, negotiation, margin management and commercial decision making.
  • Working knowledge of UK CAA regulations and compliance driven service delivery.
  • Understanding of SORA methodology and its commercial implications for clients.
  • Experience working alongside Safety Management Systems (SMS) or regulated operational frameworks.

Desirable

  • Track record of delivering revenue growth and building new business lines.
  • Drone regulations (e.g., CAA or equivalent aviation authority frameworks).

Key Skills

  • Strong commercial and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex technical solutions.
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Results-driven with a proactive, hands-on approach.
This position offers valuable training opportunities for individuals eager to develop their leadership capabilities while contributing positively to our organisation.

Due to the nature of elements of the role, the successful applicant must be a UK National and may be required to successfully complete National Security Vetting which may require criminal record, security service and credit reference checks; qualification will also normally require a minimum UK residency of at least 5 years.
