    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the CPD training course?Reveal

As the UK drone sector advances in regulation and complexity, maintaining pilot competency is essential. The Continuous Professional Development (CPD) course is a completely bespoke training programme designed to enhance your existing operational knowledge. It ensures you stay up to date with evolving regulations, technological shifts, and safety protocols.

Is there a rigid syllabus I have to follow?Reveal

Not at all. This course is explicitly designed to be customisable. You will work alongside our training experts to co-design a syllabus that targets the exact areas where you or your drone team want to excel. You only spend time on the skills and knowledge you actually need.

Who is this course designed for?Reveal

This training is designed specifically for already qualified drone pilots who want to expand their current skill sets, refresh their knowledge, or safely transition into more advanced commercial workflows.

Do I need to hold specific qualifications first?Reveal

Yes, ideally you should already hold a foundational drone qualification (such as an A2 CofC, GVC, or the latest Remote Pilot Certificate Level 1 / RPC-L1). If you need to earn your initial qualifications first, our academy team can help you book onto those foundational courses before starting CPD.

What specific operational areas can be covered in a CPD course?Reveal

Our expert instructors can adapt your CPD training to focus on a wide variety of advanced operational disciplines, including:

    • CAA Regulatory Updates: Navigating the latest changes and framework transitions (such as the shift toward RPC-L1 and RPC-L2).
    • Night Operations: Managing safety, lighting protocols, and situational awareness in low-light environments.
    • Thermal Imaging: Mastering thermography sensors for industrial or emergency use.
    • Search and Rescue (SAR): Tactical flight patterns, crew coordination, and emergency response workflows.
    • Payload Training: Getting the most out of specialized camera, sensor, or delivery hardware.

Ethical and Legal Considerations: Staying compliant with privacy laws, data protection, and local airspace restrictions.

I don't see the specific skill I need listed. Can you still train me and my team?Reveal

Yes. If there is a highly niche application or a specific piece of equipment you need training on, simply get in touch with our team. We regularly build completely bespoke flight and theory packages to match specific corporate and industrial workflows.

    What is A1, A2, and A3 categories of operating a <25kg drone?Reveal

The categories of operations are known as A1, A2, and A3. They are classified as:

    • A1 (fly over people)
    • A2 (fly close to people)
    • A3 (fly far away from people)

The basic CAA Drone Code will tell you everything you need to pass the test for a flyer ID, which allows you to fly in Open A1 and A3 categories.

What is the difference between the Open and Specific categories?Reveal

The Specific category covers operations that present a greater risk than that of the Open category, or where one or more elements of the operation fall outside the boundaries of the Open category. You must pass the online test and hold a Flyer-ID, and register as a UAS operator, and display your Operator ID on your UAS.

Who provides the A2 CofC and GVC training?Reveal

The A2 CofC and GVC training is provided by our experienced EEI Academy instructors. We are recognised by the CAA and their courses are designed to expand your theoretical knowledge to ensure you operate safely and appropriately.

Where will I do the training?Reveal

We have training venues and flight sites in Lincoln and Swindon with options to conduct the A2 CofC online.

If there are enough students on our courses, our training can also be brought to a bespoke location near you.

    3. Very good and helpful trainers. They understood the difference in our police role as drone operators. Kent Police

    4. Did this for work (military). First time flying a drone and got competent quite quickly and the theory was heavy but taught well enough for a high pass on it. The instructor was former Forces so there was No BS. Really enjoyed it. Zeta South Student

    5. Excellent communication and dedication to ensure information was digestible and easy to understand. Practical approach and very friendly. A2 CofC Student

    6. The instruction from Steve and Gally was excellent.  They understood the need to translate the course content into a practical way that we as Kent Fire & Rescue Service will us it. I  believe all the content was covered and as a candidate I gained confidence at flying using the hand held screen and camera. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone getting involved with any drone activities. Kent Fire and Rescue Service
