This course is designed for remote pilots who already hold a valid General Visual Line of Sight Certificate (GVC) and wish to convert to the new Remote Pilot Certificate Level 1 (RPC-L1) under the UK CAA’s updated competency framework.
RPC-L1 is the baseline qualification for operations under the UK SORA methodology and is essential for future progression into more complex scenarios, including BVLOS. The UK CAA introduced the RPC system in 2025 to align pilot training with the UK SORA risk-based approach.
RPC-L1 replaces GVC as the entry-level qualification for Specific Category operations and is the foundation for advanced certifications.
Practical flight training is delivered from our Centre of Excellence flight site in South Scarle, Nottinghamshire. Details and scheduling are subject to confirmation and weather conditions.
Additionally, we can also provide both a Practical Flight and Theoretical Refresher Course. The Practical refresher will involve 4-batteries worth of one-to-one practical flight training delivered over a half day period from our flight site and costs £299 ex VAT. The Theoretical refresher will involve approximately 5-hours of theory and costs £399 ex VAT.
The following must be provided no later than five working days from the course start date:
We want every learner to feel supported on our drone courses. If you have any learning difficulties or require additional support, please let us know before your course begins. This helps us make any reasonable adjustments you may need, such as extra time, alternative materials, or tailored learning support.
All information is treated confidentially and used only to ensure you have the best possible training experience.
The General Visual Line of Sight Certificate (GVC) to Remote Pilot Certificate Level One (RPC‑L1) Bridging Course is a CAA-aligned drone training course in the UK designed to help existing GVC holders convert to the new Remote Pilot Certificate Level 1 (RPC-L1).
The UK CAA is realigning its training framework to fit the modern Future of Flight and UK SORA guidelines, with the GVC is being phased out. Converting your qualification to an RPC-L1 future-proofs your commercial status, keeps you fully compliant in the Specific Category, and allows your organisation to continuously maintain or renew its Operational Authorisations.
This course is specifically designed for current GVC-qualified drone pilots who want to upgrade to the new RPC framework and remain compliant with evolving CAA regulations.
The conversion course is typically a fast-track programme that can be completed in as little as one day, depending on experience and scheduling, with training being delivered at our flight site on the Lincolnshire / Nottinghamshire borders.
No. Most GVC holders are exempt from the RPC‑L1 theory exam, although they may still complete theory learning elements to align with the updated framework.
Under current CAA guidelines, holding an in-date GVC means you are legally exempt from the formal theoretical written examination. However, because the framework introduces the new SORA-aligned risk planning and operating protocols, you will still be required to complete essential pre-learning materials provided by us prior to arriving at our flight site for your course.
The course includes at least 2 hours of practical flight instruction, helping pilots refresh skills and meet the required competency standards.
After successful assessment, you will be awarded the Remote Pilot Certificate Level 1 (RPC‑L1), the new entry-level certification for Specific Category operations, which will be valid for 5 years from the date of successful completion
Yes. The RPC‑L1 qualification enables you to continue commercial drone operations in the UK, meeting the required pilot competency standards for Operational Authorisation.
Upgrading to the RPC-L1 means that you’ll have
Do you have a question? We are here to help. Submit your details below and we'll call you back. (Mon-Fri 9am - 5.30pm)
You need to have an RPC-L1 Aeroplane qualification to begin this course, as this will build upon the fundamentals of fixed wing flying to convert you to type on our impressive DeltaQuad Evo RPAS. What’s more, you will also learn how to use the exceptional Auterion Mission Planner, which is the brains of the operation when using DeltaQuad. This is a VLOS course only, although we have the ability to further expand on this into the BVLOS environment, provided the correct regulatory approvals are established. Experience this cutting-edge VTOL RPAS now and let us show you how it can further benefit your operations.
Our new 1-day Observers course is designed to expand your RPAS crewing capabilities and de-risk more complex operations through the provision of professionally qualified RPAS safety observers. Utilising proven aviation standards and procedures, our professional and
experienced instructors will guide you through the fundamentals of Crew Resource Management, crew communications, RPAS control and coordination and give you the practical experience you need to maximise the benefits of your RPAS for VLOS operations and beyond.
If you hold a valid GVC and want to convert to an RPC-L1 qualification in the same category of UAS, under the CAA you are exempt from conducting the theory elements of the course and may progress directly to the practical elements. Therefore, you simply need to book
onto either our conversion course or the practical days of a full RPC-L1 course (provided there is capacity to fit you in). This will provide you with the minimum of 2-hours flight instruction before you attempt the flight assessment. Proof of GVC validity will be required prior to conducting the training.
This course is designed to qualify you in either Rotorcraft or Aeroplane, noting that you only need to conduct the practical aspects of the course, provided you have successfully passed the full Level 1 course in the other discipline.
(Please note this does not include conversion onto our DeltaQuad platform; that is a bespoke course in its own right).
