Crew Resource Management (CRM) Course

Duration 1 Day  classroom based  minimum 4 students

Our new one-day Crew Resource Management (CRM) facilitation course is led by our qualified instructors who have a wealth of military and civilian experience delivering aviation related courseware. In the constantly evolving field of RPAS, being able to fully harness the capabilities of your organisation, in potentially challenging environments, will ensure that you are actively mitigating a well-documented aviation safety risk, further strengthening your position in the market.

Why do CRM training?

Following the recent release of the UK Specific Operations Risk Assessment framework (or UK SORA) under the CAA, there is now a clear requirement to fully understand and mitigate the risk to air safety caused by a failing in Human Factors (HF) and/or Crew Resource Management (CRM). These are intrinsically linked as a core component of Operational Safety Objectives (OSOs) within SORA and the new Remote Pilot Competence (RPC) framework, enabling Remote Pilots, organisations, and risk owners to actively mitigate this clearly articulated risk in aviation. Our Mastering UK SORA for Drone Operations course will give you a comprehensive understanding of the entire step-by-step process.

As RPAS complexity continues to develop at pace, with multi-crew operations becoming the norm, the need to strengthen this essential safety aspect of RPAS flying has never been more critical.

The new EEI RPAS CRM course will introduce you to this wide-ranging subject area, expanding on the core aspects in a facilitative manner and actively encouraging peer discussion amongst the group. The course covers the following topics:

  • Human Interaction
  • Stress Management
  • Fatigue Management
  • Factors Affecting Crew Performance
  • Information Processing
  • Error Management
  • Situational Awareness
  • Workload Management
  • Decision Making

Why choose Eagle Eye Innovations as your training provider?

Here at Eagle Eye Innovations, we pride ourselves on being the only company specialising in all aspects and classifications of RPAS technology. Our instructors have over 200 years of military experience and amassed thousands of operating hours on a wide variety of systems, in both a commercial and operational setting.

We have expertise on all matters relating to RPAS training, ranging from sub 25kg systems, through to the MQ-9A Reaper and other Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) platforms. We have been operating both nationally and globally since 2013 and are the longest running RPAS training and consultancy organisation in the United Kingdom.

This course will provide you with a solid understanding on the importance of Crew Resource Management and Human Factors in the rapidly evolving world of RPAS operations. We challenge you to apply these lessons into your everyday flying activity and continue striving to be as safe as you can possibly be.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CRM?Reveal

CRM, or Crew Resource Management, is a set of training procedures and strategies focused on communication, decision-making, leadership, and teamwork to optimise human performance and reduce error in high-risk environments like aviation and RPAS operations.

Why is CRM so important in RPAS operations?Reveal

Even in remotely piloted environments, human factors remain a critical risk. CRM helps RPAS operators, pilots, and supporting crew work more effectively as a team, enhancing situational awareness, reducing errors, and ultimately improving safety and mission success.

How does CRM link into SORA?Reveal

CRM supports several aspects of the Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA) process by strengthening operational safety through effective risk identification, mitigation, and human performance management.

Is this a remote course?Reveal

No, this is a facilitated in-person course, where your engagement is critical to maximising the benefit, ensuring we all learn from each other.

What topics are covered in course?Reveal

The course is highly interactive and encourages peer discussion. Key topics include:

  • Human Interaction & Teamwork
  • Stress and Fatigue Management
  • Information Processing & Error Management
  • Situational Awareness & Workload Management
  • Effective Decision Making

Who should attend this training?Reveal

It is ideal for commercial drone operators, flight crews, and safety managers. It is particularly relevant for organisations moving toward complex operations where multi-crew setups (pilot, sensor operator, and observer) are the norm.

Why is CRM necessary for drone pilots?Reveal

Statistics show that most aviation incidents are caused by human error rather than mechanical failure. This course addresses the “human factors” that lead to poor decision-making, such as stress, fatigue, and communication breakdowns, specifically within the context of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), helping the crew to work as a cohesive unit to maintain situational awareness and catch errors before they have the potential to become serious incidents.

Testimonials

  1. An outstanding week of training, both theory and practical flying. Extremely knowledgeable and approachable instructors who made the learning as easy and efficient as possible. This has prepared me extremely well for my RPAS job role. Zeta Central Student

  2. Steve provided excellent instruction and hands on experience. The pace he adopted and calm demeanour were first rate, enhancing the confidence and learning experience for myself, enabling a successful outcome. Kent Police

  3. Ian (Gally) did an amazing job teaching our group! He made the course fun and had lots of time and patience. Learned a lot and feel confident flying. Thank you so much. Can’t recommend Eagle Eye Innovations highly enough. Zeta Closed Student

  4. The course was very good, one to one remote access worked very well. Online A2 CofC Student

  5. I was made to feel welcome from the outset. Suffering from PTSD I was very nervous and apprehensive about attending but was given sufficient information beforehand and made comfortable from arrival. It's been one of the most rewarding courses I've done as I was able to enjoy the course and not have to worry about myself. Simon Garland-Lo

  6. Did this for work (military). First time flying a drone and got competent quite quickly and the theory was heavy but taught well enough for a high pass on it. The instructor was former Forces so there was No BS. Really enjoyed it. Zeta South Student
