Dom Smith Director of Operations

Dominic retired from the Royal Air Force in 2019 after 11 years of service as a pilot, 6 of which was spent as an MQ-9 Reaper flying instructor and Qualified Weapons Instructor. During his time serving on XIII Squadron at RAF Waddington he amassed over 2000 operational flying hours and was responsible for the training of pilots between 2015-2019. Developing his instructional pedigree in delivery of over 500 hours of instruction on the front line, his passion for high quality training delivery was nurtured.

In January 2019 Dom retired from the RAF as one of the leading experts in UK MQ-9 operations having led, supervised, instructed, and operated across all facets of the MQ-9 mission set during the busiest operational periods for the UK Reaper Force. During this time, he received two 3* Commendations for his personal contribution to operations and training. He joined Eagle Eye Innovations in January 2019 in a new role as Director of Operations, tasked with diversifying the company training portfolio, building upon the great foundations and reputation of EEI as the longest running CAA accredited SRPAS training provider, to include training provision for larger RPAS such as MQ-9.

As well as being responsible for the day-to-day delivery of business operations across EEI’s business streams, Dom is also a CAA accredited SRPAS Instructor/Evaluator and an MQ-9 Civilian Flying Instructor. In 2019 he was integral in the effort to win EEIs first MQ-9 synthetic training support contract which they have now been delivering under sub-contract to Meta Mission Data for the last 15 months and which has recently been renewed to continue Reaper synthetic instructional delivery and training support until 2024.

As a part of the senior leadership team of a Lincoln based Small Medium Enterprise, Dom was extremely proud to be appointed as a Defence and Security Advisor to the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (GLLEP) in April 2021. The board is tasked with promoting the region’s ability to enhance, develop and support Government programmes and private industry within the high-tech, high-value Defence industry to locate more defence and security activities within Greater Lincolnshire.

Dom is married with two children and in his spare time enjoys travelling, cooking, property development and assisting with his sons’ grass routes football team. He is looking forward to starting an MBA Leadership post graduate degree at Lincoln University in September 2021.
