RPAS Communications Technician

The Role

The role ensures that deployed engineering operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory and organisational requirements. The post holder will manage maintenance activity in remote international locations, support scheduled deployment plans, and provide leadership, supervision and technical expertise to engineering personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul of RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems) with a focus on, ground control stations, radio systems, satellite communications, and local area networks – in accordance with approved Technical Documentation.
  • Conduct diagnostics and troubleshooting of ground control stations, radio systems, satellite communications, and local area networks to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to identify and address potential issues before they impact operations.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and implement modifications or upgrades to RPAS systems.
  • Document all maintenance and repair activities in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure quality control of RPAS maintenance practices and services in accordance with ISO, CAA and MAA regulation.
In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the employee may be required to perform other duties as reasonably assigned, in alignment with the needs of the business. This may include supporting engineering projects, contributing to process improvements, and participating in organisational safety and compliance initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • CompTIA Network+ or demonstrable relevant experience, or, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or demonstrable relevant experience
  • Experience supporting RPAS systems, ground control systems, and related technologies (for example Satellite Communications).
  • Experience in IT support, network administration, or systems administration.
  • Familiarity with communication systems such as satellite, RF, and wireless networks.
  • Familiarity with management of TAK systems.
  • Proven ability to self-supervise maintenance tasks on military or civilian crewed or uncrewed systems (Group 3–5).
  • Experience supervising teams, conducting independent inspections, and maintaining operational readiness in high-pressure environments.
  • Appreciation of self-supervision of maintenance tasks from a military or civilian, aviation environment.
  • Thorough understanding of safety management systems, compliance management, and risk assessment.
Desirable
  • Understanding and application of Human Factors
Key Skills
  • Strong communication skills for liaising with operations teams, aircrew, and technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to make sound technical decisions under pressure.
  •  Meticulous attention to detail to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
