A2 Certificate of Competency – Renewals

PUBLIC TRAINING COURSE

The A2 Certificate of Competency (A2CofC) is a key qualification for drone operators, allowing flight within the Open category, which includes operations closer to people in populated areas. This certificate is valid for five years, after which it requires renewal to maintain currency.

Renewal Requirements for Your A2CofC

In line with CAA guidelines, Remote Pilots (RP) renewing their A2CofC must declare their competence and provide the following documents to EEI, acting as the Recognised Assessment Entity (RAE):

  1. Proof of Identity
  2. Current A2CofC Certificate
  3. Valid Flyer ID
  4. Flight Logs – demonstrating all elements of practical self-learning conducted within the last three months

Booking Your Renewal with EEI

If your qualification expires within the next six months, you’re eligible to book your renewal assessment with EEI. For successful renewal, you’ll need to pass a theoretical exam with a minimum score of 75%.

  • You have one attempt only – If you don’t pass the assessment, a full A2CofC theoretical course with a new assessment is required.
  • Option to Refresh – You may choose to take the full course as a refresher before the exam if it’s been a while since you last studied the material.

Note: All assessment results are reported to the CAA for compliance tracking.

EEI A2CofC Course Overview

The EEI A2CofC course provides a comprehensive review of key theoretical principles through 5 hours of training, followed by a multiple-choice exam. Our ground school covers three essential modules:

  • Meteorology – Understanding and interpreting weather conditions critical for safe drone operation.
  • Drone Flight Performance – Building core knowledge on drone capabilities and limitations.

Whether you’re refreshing your knowledge or renewing your A2CofC, EEI is here to ensure you have the skills and confidence to continue flying safely and effectively in the Open category.
