At RUSTA we often get asked what is the most hazardous part of flying a UAV. Most candidates are worried about a technical malfunction, inclement unexpected weather or perhaps even the risk of colliding with a bird.
They are often surprised when we point out that the answer is simply you………The Human Element. Most incidents in aviation can be attributed, in some way, to the behaviour or the actions of the crew.
The same human element dangers and risks are omnipresent and, in some cases, enhanced in Unmanned Aviation, which is why at RUSTA we introduce candidates to Human Factors. At the end of the course candidates would have been taught to adopt procedures, which will help them, recognise their shortcomings and will improve their performance after every flight.
